This Early American pattern is from the Esther Brazer Stevens Collection at the Museum of American Folk Art.  Brazer Stevens recorded authentic stencil patterns, including this one from the Humphries House in Dorchester, MA, c.1800.

This floorcloth uses a subtle palette of two micaceous golds on a gold background with bright red accents. The overall effect is calm, lovely and because the golds are slightly reflective, the appearance of the pattern shifts depending on lighting and one’s position relative to the floorcloth.
