Edward Durant

The Esther Brazer Stevens Collection at the Museum of American Folk Art contains many authentic floorcloth patterns traced directly from the floors of historic homes around New England.  Perhaps the most prolific house is the Edward Durant House in Newton, MA, c. 1734.  The house contained many stenciled floors with some of the most beautiful Early American stencil designs found anywhere.

Edward Durant Floorcloth #4

Size: 7'5" x 11' 5"
Background Color: Pale moon
Motif Colors: Custom green
Rich gold
This pattern uses the same motifs employed in the Edward Durant #2 and #3 designs, except that the center motifs are turned 45 degrees to create a diamond shape, and each motif uses a single color, whereas #2 and #3 use a three-color version of the pattern.  The border pattern is the same as for all floorcloths in the Edward Durant series although the size of the pattern is larger.

The palette used was chosen to complement the fir cabinets and gorgeous green tile in this lovely kitchen.

(Item # ED04. This pattern is priced at a rate of $55/SF.)
