Petal & Circle

This lovely, understated, organic pattern made up of floral elements that combine to create circles, is based on an original linoleum pattern from about 1910 or so.  We are completely charmed by the pattern and look forward to exploring it in many different colorways and treatments.

This is a full image of this floorcloth, based on a linoleum pattern c.1910 or so. The floorcloth will be installed wall-to-wall is made slightly larger the the maximum vertical and horizontal size of the kitchen it will be installed in.

This floorcloth attempts to mimic the look of the original linoleum in all ways. The linoleum has an unusual multicolor background that appears to be made up of dots of differently colored paints.  We attempted to re-create the look via several passes of stippling with different paints and glazes.  The roughly edged motifs were stenciled in cream and charcoal and then more stippling was done on top of them.  The overall effect is remarkably similar to the original.

Design Variations

The interior of this floorcloth is based on an original linoleum pattern, c. 1910 or so, and the border is a fishscale pattern from the 1800s.
